Vinyasa-Krama Yoga; Beginners/General – Casual, all welcome

Krama literally means “steps”. In our classes, every posture and dynamic exercise (vinyasa) has been thoughtfully placed to prepare the muscles or physiology for the next posture or dynamic exercise. For example, we work towards releasing tension in problem areas such as the hamstrings, hips and lower back. This way, most of the more “traditional” yoga poses feel relatively comfortable by the time we arrive at the them.
Our *casual group classes consist of therapeutic “vinyasa-krama” sequences that, with regular attendance, will enhance and improve focus, strength, flexibility, range of movement and balance, as well as breathing and postural awareness. These classes are levelled somewhere “in the middle”. We continually offer adaptations and modifications when necessary or where suitable; in other words, “add-ons” or easier options. Our movements and exercises are based on traditional Yoga postures and qi gong, adjusted to suit the modern body, and combined with modern, science-based, exercise physiology. It’s a system that will greatly enhance the health of your nervous system – provided you listen carefully to the teacher!
Casual classes are suitable for most people with a reasonable level of fitness and range of movement. If you are not so fit and haven’t stretched for a while, please leave your ego at the door and come into class with an open mind, an open heart, patience and a willingness to pay attention to and be kind to your body/mind! In these classes, we always start with an easier variation of a pose and sometimes optional “add-ons” are offered. Because every “body” is unique, some people may find that they need to modify some exercises and/or stick to the easier variations. It is extremely important that you always take responsibility for your own body. Competitiveness, pride and/or worrying about what others are doing means it can be hard to stay focussed on you! It is also important to note that these are group rather than remedial classes and therefore not suitable for people with serious injuries or health condition.
*Consistency is the key; please know that if you are too casual, you won’t reap the benefits of the practise!
